Bio

Lauren Gabor was born and raised in Greenwich Village in the 1960s. She studied art history, receiving her BA from Swarthmore College, and later became a production designer for film in Los Angeles. While living in Florence with her husband and young children, she decided to pursue a career as a figurative artist. She joined the atelier of Richard Morris in 2010 to build a classical foundation in drawing and painting, followed by alla prima instruction from Sean Cheetham, Aaron Westerberg, and Stephen Assael. Inspired by the wild California coast, Lauren studied plein air landscape technique with Marc Dalessio and Kevin MacPherson. She divides her time between Los Angeles and Big Sur, California.

Artist Statement

I am continuously fascinated by the depiction of human character in art throughout history. The infinite perspectives and techniques employed to reflect power, beauty, and pathos have been instructive in my growth as a figurative artist. I strive to understand and master a technical practice that captures truth beyond a mere likeness. I’m most excited when my connection with a subject sparks an intuitive expression of materials, a process that affirms what I see and feel.
